This post is different from others. Instead of pictures or stories of my family, it is somewhat philosophical. On Sunday I received a new calling (or assignment) in our ward (congregation). Before I was the primary secretary, mostly incharge of knowing how many kids come to church. I really enjoyed working with the women in the old presidency. I made friends (which is important when living in a new place) and was able to get to know the children in our ward.
My new calling is 2nd councilor in the primary presidency. Now I will be teaching a large (20ish) group of kids once a month, two times (once for older kids 8-11, once for younger kids 3-8). I might be incharge of the cub scouts. I'm hoping I find out at our first presidency meeting (wednesday) what my responsibilities will be. I'm excited about this new calling. I don't think it will be too different from what I was doing before. I'm excited to work with and get to know the women in the new presidency.
Several people congratulated me for my new calling. The first being one of our neighbors. (He was the previous bishop for those who are wondering which of our wonderful neighbors I speak of.) He caught me off guard, so I kind of chuckled (which is what I do when I don't know what to say) and hurried off (I
was in a hurry). Now I'm hoping he and anyone that overheard the exchange don't think that I'm not excited about the calling. I am excited to serve in anyway I am asked or inspired to. To everyone else that congratulatd me, I was ready with a "thanks."
Now I'm pondering why the congrats. I asked my sister, Cambrai this when she congratulated me (over texting, which is how I told her). She responded, "Lol its true! We as a (Mormon) culture don't aspire (for certain callings) but still congratulate when we get 'prestigous' callings but what do you say really?"
So, I ask you, my friends, does "congrats" mean something? Is there something else we could say instead? Am I just weird? Wait...don't answer that...
